Jo treks in India
For most people, trekking means
Nepal, but there is another place just as spectacular
and wondrous as Nepal and that is the often forgotten
region of the Indian Himalayas. I was lucky enough
to visit and explore this magical region last September
and have never returned from a holiday so revitalised,
humbled and amazed.
I have been to many parts of the
world and this last venture was by far the most memorable
of my experiences. The area I am talking about is
Zanskar and Ladhak, right up near the Tibetan Plateau.
This Himalayan Traverse was not a holiday, it was
an adventure! An adventure that will live with me
forever.

Sandra says…Continuing on from my culinary ramblings
in our previous newsletter, I can say that if anything
epitomises the flavour of Mongolia, it is the the
sheep. Yes, indeed. We had mutton dumplings, mutton
noodle soup, mutton pasties...need I go on? However,
when it is sleeting outside, there is nothing better
than this greasy, stodgy fare.
In Russia, contrary to the stereotypical
images we get of breadand- water queues, there was
great variety in the foods available. Apart from the
usual pizza and fried chicken joints, you could also
go to places like the Hungry Cow and get a bowl of
Bortscht, a grilled shaslick with salad and rice,
and wash it all down with a local beer. The food is
still greasy, but there is more variety! It was a
shame that we were not able to go to China and taste
the grease...er, food in this part of the world. Maybe
next time! Click

Vive la Revolucion! It seems everyone is going to
Cuba these days. And why not! I travelled with Explore
Worldwide through this much-maligned country in May
2004, and experienced the most relaxed holiday I have
had in years.
Having left Adelaide 37 hours
before, we finally arrived in Havana…fried!
As we drove from the airport to our hotel, our frazzled
nerves were soothed by the hint of Cuban Rumba wafting
from the taxi's dilapidated speakers. However, it
wasn't until our first mojito later that evening that
we really began our holiday. And it just got better
and better! Click

Story:Latin America
Latin America conjures up many different images
for people. For some it might be dense jungles,
for others it may be towering mountains or smoking
volcanoes. For me, the intrigue of South and Central
America has always been the different cultures
and people.

Dear Tashi
Thank you so much for the beautiful book on Antarctica
you gave Wayne and me - it's a spectacular book and
a very thoughtful gift.
Over the past 11 years we have been lucky enough to
enjoy many brilliant holidays and adventures - all
booked through Thor Travel. I
can honestly say that all of these trips have been
made hassle free by the expert advice and guidance
of yourself and your friendly and helpful staff. Whether
we travelled to Far North Queensland, New Zealand,
the USA or to many other more exotic destinations,
we received top class service from you and your team.
During these years we have trekked in
Nepal three times and once in Sikkim, combined with
a fantastic tour of northern India - totally trouble
free and using wonderful local guides. We also have
had two completely diverse and trouble free holidays
in South America involving trekking in the Andes and
walking in Patagonia as well as sight seeing and touring.
To top it all off, we had a fantastic
11 days cruising in Antarctica with Aurora Expeditions.
We have spent a total of nine weeks in South America
and the worst thing that happened to us was that our
pull along straps for our suitcases were stolen in
Puno. In fact, that's the worst thing that has occurred
in all of our travels - we feel
truly blessed. During these adventures and holidays,
we never missed a flight, we always had a good hotel
to stay in, all of our vouchers and
bookings were honoured and our detailed itineraries
were accurate and easy to understand. Our experiences
with travel through Thor have always been very positive
and enjoyable, unlike many other travellers we have
met over the years who had nothing but complaints
about their travel agents.
We look forward to many more holidays
and adventures arranged by Thor Travel and cannot
recommend you highly enough. In fact, during our Antarctic
voyage, some interstate passengers were very interested
in obtaining your name and address as they were so
impressed with your expertise.Once again, thank you
for your generous gift - hope to see you soon.
Kind regards
Rosalie Pearson
Hi Nieccia and Tashi,
Just a quick note to say I am back.........arrived
on saturday, and to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!!
With all credit to your organisation of the trip EVERYTHING
went off without a hitch.
I had an absolutely fabulous
time.
The flights, the people, the countries.........just
magic.
I was very impressed with the service of all the agencies,
the guides, drivers etc etc.
I could rave on and on but basically
I just wanted to say thank you.
Tibet was a dream come true and I will definitely
be returning to see more of the country and also Nepal......maybe
next year.
Take care,
Will keep in touch
regards,
Margaret Thebus
